Hours before the 2018 NFL Draft, we thought we’d try out one more 7-round mock draft to see how the Chiefs could look after a very busy weekend.

The 2018 NFL Draft is just hours away from kicking off, and no one is sure what will happen even at the very top of the 2017 NFL Draft. Will Baker Mayfield go first overall? Sam Darnold? When will Lamar Jackson go? Will the Kansas City Chiefs trade up into the first?

Given that we’re going to go from new mock drafts every day to absolutely nothing, we thought we’d try to get in our last second predictions so that we can potentially point back and say, “Look we knew all along.”

Here’s a 7-round mock for the Chiefs, using FanSpeak, for

No. 54 overall
Carlton Davis, CB, Auburn

The Kansas City Chiefs could use some potential impact at cornerback, yes, but they could also use some real help from day one. After losing Marcus Peters, the Chiefs secondary is likely to be a work in progress as the 2018 season goes on. Kendall Fuller has to get used to playing outside as well as doing so within a new scheme with new teammates. David Amerson is making the same adjustment after years with the Oakland Raiders. Beyond those two and Steven Nelson, there’s a huge drop off in talent and available players.

Enter Carlton Davis, a near-perfect selection at this point in the draft, a four-year starter from Auburn who brings immediate experience into the defensive backfield to be ready to go from day one. He’s a very physical player and All-SEC player who had 11 passes defended and 1 interception last year for the Tigers. With Davis joining the aforementioned trio, suddenly the Chiefs look young and talented as a core group once again, even after jettisoning one of the best corners this offseason.
