The Cleveland Browns are the verge of pulling off the first real surprise of the 2018 NFL Draft with the rumor that Baker Mayfield is the man.

Baker Mayfield is getting buzz at just the right time.

The 2018 NFL Draft kicks off in a matter of hours and the Cleveland Browns have yet to give up any real information on who they will take at No. 1 overall. Sam Darnold typically has been the name to watch atop most mock drafts, including a brand new one from Mike Mayock, but now Mayfield is generating considerable buzz and rumors, including this one from Adam Schefter.

John Dorsey is the new general manager in Cleveland, and Kansas City Chiefs fans are very used to him keeping a tight lip on things. Eric Fisher was the mystery pick in 2013, the last draft in which Dorsey held the keys to the first pick, a surprise over the more experienced offensive tackle in Luke Joeckel. Years later, Joeckel has changed franchises and positions, while Fisher remains entrenched on the left side of Kansas City’s line.

Even from there, Dorsey was always quiet about what the Chiefs were going to do on draft day, but perhaps none was as surprising as the Chiefs trade up from No. 27 overall to the No. 10 position, leapfrogging quarterback hungry teams like the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals in the process, in order to draft Patrick Mahomes.

Browns fans should expect Dorsey to keep fans and even the most informed NFL analysts on their feet all evening as Cleveland controls so much of what happens in this year’s draft class. It’s simply the way he works, but the end results—which in K.C. was a franchise turnaround to five straight winning seasons and 2 division titles— speak for themselves.
