Round 6 – Pick 196 overall – Damon Webb – Safety – Ohio State

I wouldn’t hate the idea of the Chiefs taking Ohio State’s Damon Webb in the fourth round, but this seems to be where most simulations and rankings have him. I also considered Penn State’s Troy Apke here, but while he is very athletic his tape isn’t anywhere near as good as Webb’s.

The bottom line with Damon Webb is that he is only okay against the run and just isn’t much of a physical force as a safety. However, you can make a case for him being one of the best single high coverage safeties in this draft. That just so happens to be what the Chiefs really need after parting ways with Ron Parker. Webb plays center field really well and can even cover people out of the slot. So even if Webb couldn’t beat out Eric Murray for the starting free safety spot as a rookie he could still contribute as a nickel or dime back.

I think this is a great value pick here and the Chiefs now have almost completely replenished their defense in one draft class.

There is one pick to go and I think its time for the Chiefs to finally take an offensive player.
