Wyatt Teller – Virginia Tech – 6’4″ – 314 pounds

I am simply dumbfounded on why the draft community as a whole is not higher on Virginia Tech’s Wyatt Teller. The guy is both physical and athletic and has been a proven starter for three plus years against big time competition. I love this guy and feel like he should be seen as the third best guard in this class after Quenton Nelson and Will Hernandez. Instead, Teller is typically seen as a third to fifth round pick.

Here’s who Wyatt Teller is to me in one play.

Teller was seen as a rising star after a stellar junior year but the consensus seems to be that he took a step backwards his senior year and that is why he isn’t seen as a top prospect (the game tape in the YouTube video above is from his junior year and is fantastic). However, while his 2017 tape doesn’t have as many jaw dropping pancakes, it’s still really solid. Pro Football Focus only had Teller allowing seven total pressures all season during his senior campaign (0 sacks, 2 hits, 5 hurries). That’s right, this “big let down” of a senior year for Teller included him giving up zero sacks and only seven total pressures.

While his pancake highlights are fun, his mobility is what likely makes him someone the Chiefs might target. This excellent tweet thread below highlights several different plays where his agility and ability to find guys at the second level are on display. Click on the tweet itself if you want to watch the entire thread instead of just this first one.

I’ve been wanting the Chiefs to have more power up front on their interior line for years. The best part about Teller is that he combines that power (30 bench press reps at the combine) with the great mobility the Chiefs seem to want from their linemen. Teller was also only charged with one penalty his entire senior year. I’m convinced that whichever team drafts Teller is going to get a day one starting guard and an absolute steal if he falls into the mid rounds.

I really hope the Chiefs land Teller with one of their third round picks.

Next, let’s look at another mid round guy that could give the Chiefs some depth at several different spots on the line.
