Christian Campbell – Penn State – 6’1″ – 195 pounds

If you could physically design an athletic press corner in a lab you would probably come up with Penn State’s Christian Campbell. He’s an athletic freak (much like several of his fellow Penn State prospects) that absolutely crushed it at his pro day after missing the NFL combine. Not only is he six-foot-one but he has long 33″ arms that give him a killer wing span. He jumps out of the building with a 41″ vertical and a 11 foot 3 inch broad jump. He ran a good 4.51 forty with even better times in the three cone drill (6.77 seconds) and 20 yard shuttle (4.13 seconds). He even put up a solid 15 reps on the bench press.

Basically, he has all the physical tools you could want in an outside corner. The reason he’s a late round prospect is because he simply hasn’t put those talents to good use yet. His college tape is just okay. If he didn’t test off the charts he would likely be an undrafted free agent. Still, if the Chiefs think his lack of production is because he’s coasted by on athletic ability, and with their coaching they can unlock his upside, I certainly would have no problem with them taking a flier on him in the sixth or seventh round. I’d rather take a shot on a guy with upside like Campbell than a late round corner who maybe is technically sound and could perhaps play early but simply doesn’t have the upside to be more than a career role player in the NFL.

You might notice that a few of the “big corners” that are often mentioned in this draft are not on this list. I am NOT a fan of either Tarvarus McFadden of Florida State (if he doesn’t get a good jam on the WR at the line, he’s done) or Kevin Tolliver of LSU (sloppy and possibly lazy?). There were other corners that I liked and would be happy if K.C. drafted, but ultimately these are the guys I’ll be watching for early (Davis and Meeks), mid (Hill and Yiadom), and late (Campbell) in this draft.

So what do you think Chiefs fans? Are you a fan of these corners as well? Are there other corners that are higher up on your wish list? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

As always, thanks for reading and GO CHIEFS!!!!!!
