A Chiefs fan’s guide to the NFL Draft: The Cornerbacks
Quenton Meeks – Stanford – 6’1″ – 209 pounds
While not quite as highly touted on most big boards, the second highest rated corner on my wish list is probably Stanford’s Quenton Meeks. While it’s certainly possible someone could snatch him up before the Chiefs pick the depth at cornerback in this draft could definitely push Meeks down to where the Chiefs first pick in the second round.
If that happens, Meeks looks like another perfect fit for the Chiefs press man scheme. Meeks is a big and physical corner at six-foot-one and 209 pounds and he is definitely strong enough to jam up bigger receivers on the outside. After not running at the combine because he was rehabbing from an injury there were a few people that wondered about his speed but a 4.49 40-yard dash at Stanford’s pro day seems to have answered those questions.
While 40 times and measurements are nice, it’s Meeks’s play on the field that makes him a strong prospect for the Chiefs to consider. In the clip below you can see him sticking with his man in a goal line situation.
Much like Carlton Davis, Meeks’s physical play doesn’t just show up in coverage. He’s also a physical tackler as well. He is good in run support and will occasionally lay someone out if he gets the chance. Watch him come flying in at the end of this play.
If the Chiefs stay where they currently are in the second round and decide to go with a corner with their first pick, I think Quenton Meeks might be the most likely guy that they would target.
