Brett Veach, the Kansas City Chiefs general manager, held a press conference yesterday and expressed his desire for a high-scoring offense.

On Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs held a press conference for general manager Brett Veach at the beginning of the official new league year for the National Football League. The goal was to address the team’s moves to this point, to answer questions about some recent trades and to follow-up with the media as the transaction wire heats up.

Veach gave a rare glimpse into the actions of the Chiefs front office, more so than any of his recent predecessors including John Dorsey and Scott Pioli. The entire conference is worth watching (or at least reading the transcript) for his approach to signing recent free agent acquisitions like Sammy Watkins and Anthony Hitchens as well as his thoughts on trading Alex Smith.

Veach did add some exciting statements as he was asked about new starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes. It’s clear that the Chiefs already had one of the NFL’s most potent offenses in 2017, and that the Chiefs are adding fuel to the fire with the addition of Watkins this offseason. Veach clarified that it’s all about surrounding Mahomes with anything and everything they can to make his transition easier.

"We are excited to give him some tools to work with and it is going to be a lot of fun next year. You have an innovative head coach and an innovative staff. You have a bunch of weapons and we are looking to have fun. And this is something for the fans, too. We have the best fans in the NFL and we want to go out there and put on a show. We want them to be excited and watch the scoreboard light up."

Specifically those last couple sentences should excite Chiefs Kingdom. While a team that wins consistently is certainly an exciting thing to have, it’s another level entirely when that same team is able to put up points on the board on any given play. The Chiefs certainly have some more work to do in terms of roster construction, but Veach has made it clear he wants to win games with a high-octane offense, and he hopes fans are as pleased with the results as he is.
