Kansas City Chiefs: Under-the-radar free agents to consider
By Kody Latham
Luke Wilson, TE
The Chiefs have hung onto Demetrius Harris over the years, developing him into the number two tight end on the team. The problem is that Harris is so inconsistent on a play-by-play basis. He has made some incredible catches since he has been in Kansas City, yet at the same time his drop rate has been unbelievably high. With Harris not offering much as a blocker either, it seems the time should be up for the four-year experiment.
A player the Chiefs could look to replace him with is Luke Wilson who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2013 draft out of Rice. Wilson has played the past four seasons in Seattle and has been primarily used as the second tight end behind Jimmy Graham. Wilson has excelled mostly as a blocking tight end, something the Chiefs have not had since Jason Dunn.
With the comments made by Pete Carroll at the end of the season. Wilson does not seem to keen on going back to Seattle. He also desires to be utilized more outside of just blocking. Andy Reid has shown that he likes to feed the ball to the second tight end over the years (even though Harris typically drops it). This would not be an exciting signing by the Chiefs by any stretch of the imagination but having a player that can help block and in pass protection could help the Chiefs keep Patrick Mahomes on his feet through the season.
