Muhammad Wilkerson to visit Chiefs, Saints after Packers
By Matt Conner
Free agent defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson will make a free agent visit to the Kansas City Chiefs after being released by the New York Jets.
The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly up next on the free agent tour for defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson as he decides where he wants to play for the first time away from New York.
The longtime Jets lineman was set free earlier this offseason and is already in the midst of visiting a few suitors who are lined up to spend time with the talented player. Both sides will have significant questions to answer as Wilkerson hopes to find the best deal on the open market while teams will also have to feel comfortable bringing Wilkerson in after he dealt with character concerns with the Jets.
Jason La Canfora notes that the Chiefs are on a list of visits that also includes the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints for now.
There’s no timeline confirmed for a visit to the Chiefs, so it is possible for Wilkerson to sign at any time, but Chiefs fans will certainly be hoping to see Wilkerson make it to his visit. The Chiefs need to pay attention to their defensive front after a year in which the front line failed to generate the sort of pass rush hoped for. Chris Jones remains a dominant force, but Bennie Logan is a free agent, as is Jarvis Jenkins. Allen Bailey is also slated to return for the final year of his deal.
Wilkerson will turn 29-years-old next season. He had 2.5 sacks for the Jets last season in 12 starts.
