2018 NFL mock draft: Chiefs meet most needs in 4-round effort
By Matt Conner
86. Kyzir White, S, West Virginia
Given the fact that the Chiefs will reportedly release Ron Parker soon, the starting slot across from Eric Berry is immediately up for grabs. Presumably the Chiefs will let Eric Murray compete for that spot after getting his first real reps in the NFL last year (apart from special teams experience) and Kyzir White would likely slide in as his primary competition.
Even more important is that White would represent a nice, young upgrade in the secondary where the Chiefs haven’t made a real draft investment in some time. Both Parker and Berry were hovering around 30-years-old, and Berry himself is coming off of another season-ending injury. Murray was a fourth round choice, and Dan Sorensen is also in play, but he’s well into his second contract. White would bring some much needed youth and potential to the core safeties on the team.
White has been playing in a hybrid role at West Virginia which sets him up well for the Chiefs sub packages at the next level with his versatility. He’s a very willing tackler who can stuff the run as well as blitz the quarterback who had 94 total tackles last year. He should fit in quite well next to Berry.
