Former Kansas City Chiefs coach Bernie Permalee will now be a member of Dan Quinn’s staff with the Atlanta Falcons in 2018.

Bernie Parmalee is coaching more in his natural lane these days than he did when he was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff.

Working under former head coach Todd Haley, Parmalee was the Chiefs tight ends coach for three seasons, from 2010 to 2012. Once Andy Reid and his staff arrived in 2013, Parmalee was let go along with numerous others. These days, however, Parmalee is in a bit more familiar waters since he himself was a running back as a player. This week he was announced as the new running backs coach for the Atlanta Falcons.

Parmalee has spent the last three seasons as the running backs coach of the Oakland Raiders, but obviously Jon Gruden had his eye on his own coaches to round out his staff. Parmalee helped the Raiders get the most out of young backs like Latavius Murray and worked with Marshawn Lynch upon his return from retirement.

Parmalee endured a rather unfair coaching stint with the Chiefs overall given the level of talent he was given to work with. The Chiefs drafted Travis Kelce the moment that Parmalee was let go, and the most talented player Parmalee ever worked with in Kansas City was Tony Moeaki. Other notable names under his tutelage include Kevin Boss, Steve Maneri and Jake O’Connell. Make the necessary judgments.

Parmalee himself enjoyed a nine-year NFL career after starring at Ball State University. He rushed for 2,179 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in a career largely spent with the Miami Dolphins.
