Heading into the 2018 offseason, the Chiefs have a decision on a path to follow. Will Brett Veach be aggressive or play it safe is the question?

Between head coach Andy Reid’s comments comparing quarterback Alex Smith and defensive coordinator Bob Sutton to owner Clark Hunt saying 2017 was a successful season, fans are not happy with what they are hearing from the leadership. The Kansas City Chiefs remain stuck in the beginning half of the playoffs and it seems as if the mediocrity is being accepted.

There were successful parts of the regular season but not even making it as far as the year before doesn’t seem like a success. General manager Brett Veach heads into his first offseason with the organization and has fans wondering what he might do. Already bringing in key players including linebacker Reggie Ragland, kicker Harrison Butker, and cornerback Kendall Fuller as of late Veach has shown that he is willing to trade for players he thinks can be big contributors.

Most of his trades have come through giving up draft picks leaving some fans worrying about his plan. Will Veach change how the team is built and primarily focus outside of the draft or is this a one-time thing? How will Veach approach his first draft as a general manager?

Looking at the Super Bowl champions brings into perspective the depth required on a team to make a big run. Even with key injuries across the roster, the Philadelphia Eagles managers to come out with a Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots. All because of the next man up mentality. If the Chiefs want to replicate the formula of the Eagles they will have a lot of work to do over the next couple seasons while a great deal of their top talent is on rookie contracts.

Will they play it safe and keep building for the future every year or will they throw all their marbles in one bag and go big for one or two to make a real push? Is there a right and wrong way of going about this system? Find out on this week’s episode of the Blitz Package.
