No. 3 – September 11, 2016 vs. San Diego Chargers
The Chiefs are set to open what looks to be a promising season against division rival, San Diego. However, fans’ dreams for a stunning season look to be slipping as the Chiefs fall to a 24-3 deficit with just over 6 minutes left in the third quarter. The Chiefs have never been ones to come back from behind and it looked like all was lost…

Then Alex Smith happened. He marched down the field with grit and determination to lead the team on a 30-3 run and capped it with a two-yard dive into the end zone in overtime. When he emerged from the pile, one of the most iconic photos of Alex Smith was snapped. It showed a screaming Smith with a fire and competitiveness that told you something different was going on with this team.

Smith led that offense to the largest comeback victory in franchise history. It proved his passion, his leadership and his drive. In hindsight, maybe we were seeing glimpses of the quarterback that would shock everyone with his downfield passing in 2017, but either way, we saw a true competitor that day. [Ellen Tolsma]
