The Kansas City Chiefs must find a better solution at right cornerback. Here are a few FA options to consider.

There’s probably not a more desperate need on the Kansas City Chiefs roster than the cornerback position. We can argue about a couple others being a serious need but none of them meet the urgency of a cornerback opposite Marcus Peters. With defensive coordinator Bob Sutton being retained, the Chiefs are going to require some fresh help.

Sutton gave some fans motion sickness as he cycled through his cornerbacks to fix the issue. Cornerback Terrance Mitchell, who was solid and trustworthy down the stretch in 2016, was benched for guys like Kenneth Acker and Phillip Gaines. If watching Acker and Gaines doesn’t make you want to throw something, you’re a very patient individual. Cornerback Steven Nelson has been the listed number two cornerback the last couple years, but he plays better in the slot.

One last desperate endeavor to put a band-aid on the gash was bringing in veteran cornerback Darrelle Revis. The corner who was released by the New York Jets very soon after getting a big payday proved to be little help. Combining the age and play of Revis, it makes zero sense to bring him back for the money he’s supposed to receive next year.

If the defense wants any kind of improvement, they will have to look to free agency and the draft for cornerback help. Cornerback is one of the highest paid positions in free agency, but with some of the cuts the Chiefs are liable to make this offseason, it could be impeccable timing. Looking at teams around the league that have two solid cornerbacks on the outsides, it’s probably worth the extra money too.

Let’s take a look at some of the corners that could hit free agency this offseason.
