Kareem Hunt
Chances are, if Kareem Hunt was on your pre-draft radar, it was because you saw or heard about his breakout performance in last year’s Senior Bowl. It’s not as if Hunt wasn’t already a favorite of NFL draftniks as he put up impressive numbers at the University of Toledo, but for those who are more casual in their attention of NFL prospects, it was Senior Bowl 2017 that set Hunt apart from the rest.
Hunt was easily the MVP of the entire field despite the fact that Hunt’s team, the North squad, lost a close game to the South. Hunt had 129 total yards from scrimmage, including 118 rushing yards on only 15 carries. Check out the following play for an example of the sort of balance and vision that John Dorsey went on to praise after drafting Hunt.
Fast forward a few months and Dorsey went on to trade up in the draft’s third round to secure the rights to Hunt. Afterward, Dorsey admitted that Hunt was the top running back on the team’s draft board after the most elite backs in the draft (likely Leonard Fournette, Dalvin Cook, et al). It was a fortunate trade for the Chiefs, seeing as how they already have a rookie rushing star on their hands heading into the 2018 season.
