We preview the Championship games and talk about the off-season facing the Chiefs and the upcoming draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs get to watch this weekend as the Jacksonville Jaguars head to New England to play the Patriots for the AFC Championship. The Chiefs have never won the current trophy for the AFC Champions. The Lamar Hunt trophy which was named after their founder has never come back to Kansas City. That’s an issue that this team has to get fixed sooner rather than later.

Over the next three or four seasons the AFC is going to go through some drastic changes. Tom Brady, Big Ben and Phillip Rivers are all going to retire in the next couple of years. There will be other teams that step forward in that void and for now it’s questionable who it may be. Kansas City looks to have a bright future on which to build upon but moves over the coming weeks could really solidify their place among the elite teams in the AFC.  This is the first offseason for Brett Veach as the General Manager. It will be a key couple of months to see how he handles free agency moving forward and the draft.

Getting a couple of more picks this season to add to the foundation is the best way to continue. Unfortunately for several of the teams most beloved players the window will most likely be closed on their time in Kansas City this year. The team will get younger in many positions but they have to add talent at key positions for it to make a big difference. Adding a corner, pass rusher and another guard could really set this team up for the next four years. Veach has his work cut out for him.
