Sheldon Price, defensive back

If Dorleant is the small, quick untested product, Sheldon Price is the opposite. Price is tall, long and has bounced around the NFL for the last few seasons, which likely gives him a leg up on the competition in knowing what to work on. At 6’2, the UCLA product has great length in the secondary to contest for the ball, as illustrated by the 4 interceptions from his senior season with the Bruins.

What is surprising about Price is how long he has been around for a player signed to a reserve/futures deal. Price entered the NFL back in 2013 as an undrafted free agent with the Indianapolis Colts. He only lasted a few months there, but the Baltimore Ravens swooped in to sign him when the Colts let him go. Price stuck with the Ravens through this season, but he was placed on injured reserve for the last two years to end the season.

Price has played in 4 total games at the NFL level, starting 1 for the Ravens over the last few years. The Chiefs must like his size and special teams potential, perhaps, as they’ve signed him with this bunch.

Potential fit: Like Dorleant, Price is going to have a tough time making the roster, and that’s not only because he’s signed to a futures deal. The Chiefs are pretty loaded in the secondary even as they face potential losses in unrestrictured free agents like Kenneth Acker, Phillip Gaines and Steven Terrell. The Chiefs return young cornerbacks like Ashton Lampkin, Will Redmond, Leon McQuay and Keith Reaser to a roster that also has Berry, Ron Parker, Steven Nelson, Terrance Mitchell, Marcus Peters, Dan Sorensen and Eric Murray.
