We take a deeper look into the Chiefs win over the Broncos in Patrick Mahomes’ debut.

The

Kansas City Chiefs

looked like the better team for much of the game on Sunday afternoon. Patrick Mahomes looked like the better quarterback as well when facing off against former first round pick Paxton Lynch. There are many things to be said about this game for the Chiefs, but first and foremost, they were able to go to Denver in the cold and get a win playing mostly backups. That is no small feat and looked like it wouldn’t be particularly close except for a very bad four minutes for Tyler Bray in the fourth quarter.

The defense looked pretty good for most of the game slowing down a Broncos team with nothing to lose. There were times where K.C. needed more discipline or better tackling but that is something you live with when you are playing your second and third string players. Moving to 10-6 on the year for Kansas City is another positive. The Chiefs will host the Titans next Saturday afternoon in a game at Arrowhead that promises to be loud.

At the end of the game Mahomes drove the Chiefs down the field and set up Harrison Butker to kick the game winning field goal. Mahomes ended his day 22 of 35 for 284 yards and an INT. The pick was a very bad throw by Mahomes a couple of feet of De’Anthony Thomas’ head. Mahomes will have a chance to iron out his play over the offseason. He should be ready to take over in 2018 when the Chiefs trade Smith. With the Chiefs win, Mahomes snapped the streak of not having a drafted QB win since 1987 for the Chiefs.
