The Kansas City Chiefs are favored by a single point over the visiting Los Angeles Chargers as both teams prepare for Saturday night’s match-up.

For the first time in several weeks, the Las Vegas odds out early on the Kansas City Chiefs feel right about where they should be. That’s because the Chiefs are only favored over the visiting Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday by a single point, per opening lines available at Sports Book Review.

Given that the home team is typically given a three point advantage in betting odds, that means the Chargers are coming in as the stronger team. If they played on a neutral field, the Chargers would likely be favored by two points, which correlates well with observations made at this stage of the season about both teams.

The Chargers are 7-2 since starting their season at 0-4. They’ve fully adjusted to their new surroundings outside of San Diego and they’ve rebounded well after a frustrating start that included a couple games decided by a missed field goal. Anthony Lynn deserves a few Coach of the Year votes for the turnaround job he’s done with the Chargers season and even more so if he pulls off the divisional win.

The Chiefs are the only real obstacle standing in the Chargers way (and vice versa). Andy Reid’s team was once crowned the best team in the NFL over the course of several weeks, but a pitiful losing streak that included six losses in seven games halted all such talk in the league. Instead the Chiefs are hoping they’ve found their mojo again after besting the Raiders at home on Sunday.

Both teams are 7-6 but heading into the game with vastly different momentum. If the Chiefs can slay the Chargers on Saturday, they will control their own destiny. If not, they’ll be hoping that an inferior franchise can somehow do the work they failed to do at Arrowhead.
