Andy Reid has stepped aside as the primary play caller on offense for the Kansas City Chiefs. Instead, Matt Nagy has taken over the role.

It takes a good leader to know when he/she is the problem and is willing to step aside in order to make things better. Andy Reid, head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, has done just that, having stepped aside as the primary offense playcaller in order for the Chiefs offense to get moving again,.

Matt Nagy is the new man calling plays for the Chiefs, the team’s offensive coordinator, who is getting the same chance as previous men before him.

Ian Rapoport notes that Reid will remain connected enough to give oversight and input.

Andy Reid has been through this before in his head coach career when things were not clicking. Just two years ago, the Chiefs shifted offensive play calling responsibilities to Doug Pederson, the current Philadelphia Eagles head coach who was then the Chiefs OC. In the past, Reid has allowed his OC to take over the same responsibilities back in Philly, so this is not without precedent.

The Chiefs could certainly use something to kickstart an offense that has struggled to put up points. The Chiefs had a single touchdown to show for their efforts in recent games against the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants, and the team’s running game has stalled completely in the last several weeks.

Nagy will be looking to take advantage of this opportunity to show what he can do. He’s been named as a potential future head coach by a few reports and could be in the running for the future head coach gig with the Indianapolis Colts, given his familiarity with general manager Chris Ballard.
