Through week 5 of 2017 season the Chiefs were ranked #1 in run blocking by FO. Since then the Chiefs have dropped all the way down to 20th. Pass blocking has remained mostly the same sitting at around league average (currently 19th). The Jets on the other hand have been doing relatively well against the run, ranking 8th in the league. Much like the Chiefs pass blocking. The Jets pass rush has been mostly average, currently ranking at 21st.

The key matchup in this one will be Justin Houston vs. Brandon Shell. Despite his poor grading Shell has allowed just the 11th least total pressures (17). Shell suffers most in run blocking in which he ranks 49th at the tackle position. Despite having issues with penalties in college has been called for just 2 so far in his career.

Houston seems to have returned to his former self, now being fully healthy. Grading at 11.1, Houston comes in as the 8th highest graded 3-4 linebacker in pass rushing productivity. He has 41 total pressures including 8.5 sacks which ranks 10th in the NFL. Despite Houston being one of the better pass rushers in the league. He may actually be even better at defending the run. He ranks 2nd in the NFL in run stop percentage, and has the most total run stops for 3-4 outside linebackers.

Another player to watch in this matchup is Bennie Logan against the Jets interior offensive line. Logan has been underwhelming since coming over from the Philadelphia Eagles. In 2016 Logan ranked 22nd in run stop percentage, and so far ranks 33rd in 2017. It’s even worse when you look at how he’s fared in pass rushing situations. He was tied with Dontari Poe last season at 56th, but has dropped further to 61st this season. His total stats so far are just 19 run stops and 7 total pressures in 445 total snaps. Not good.
