A closer look at the storylines and key match-ups for the Kansas City Chiefs as they visit the New York Jets.

There are a lot of questions for the Kansas City Chiefs as they head into New York to face the Jets on the road in search of a win. How will Darrelle Revis look in red and gold? Can Andy Reid get this offense running again? Will we see Patrick Mahomes?

The answer to that last one, is no. Andy Reid is not about to give up on Alex Smith. The team is still leading the division, and the team’s performance from the first five weeks is still too close in the rear view mirror.

As has been stated many times before by many different people for many different reasons, we already know who Smith is. He’s a smart but limited passer who is ultra conservative with the football. Smith has also helped give us our best five-year stretch since the Marty Schottenheimer era ended in 1998.

He can win us football games, and he can even win us a playoff game. The current issues with the team stem deeper than just a QB problem. Until this team is ready to start playing for next season. This will be Alex Smith’s team.

Now to be fully transparent I did post this to twitter:

Clearly there is still a lot of frustration with Smith, and he still has plenty to be blamed for with the Chiefs 1-5 skid. But changing over to Mahomes wont fix the run blocking, the penalties, and opponents on 3rd down. There’s also the possibility that removing Smith could cause disruptions in the locker room. This is still Smith’s team.

Now, the storylines and matchups for the week.
