The Kansas City Chiefs surprised the NFL and fans with the signing of 7-time Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis.

In a surprising move, the Kansas City Chiefs have signed Darrelle Revis. Revis started for 15 games for the New York Jets last season where he posted a stat line of one interception, five passes defended, and 53 tackles. Even with this solid stat line the Jets still decided to cut him when they started cleaning house this past offseason.

Since then he has drawn some interest from NFL teams including the Los Angeles Chargers but had remained unsigned until now. This seems to be signaling that the Chiefs are finally coming to terms with their cornerback situation that currently has Terrance Mitchell and Phillip Gaines who rank 92nd and 118th out of all corners in the league according to Pro Football Focus.

This is not the first time the Chiefs have shown interest. They also attempted to sign Revis back in 2015 before he signed his five-year deal with the Jets. The good part about this signing is the fact that he should be able to come in and play right away due to already being familiar with Bob Sutton’s defense. This signing should give the Chiefs a boost in the secondary even if it is not by a lot. I know all of you are thinking back to last year and him getting burnt deep throughout the 2016 season. Apparently, he may not be as bad as we thought according to PFF:

The Chiefs do not need Revis to become his old self, at this point all they need from him is to come in and play competently so that teams can not just throw jump balls at anywhere that isn’t Marcus Peters. Even if this signing comes to nothing, I will applaud Brett Veach for at least trying to make a change here—even if it may be too little too late for the defense as it is now.
