Seeing Dontari Poe come out on offense in the red zone will always be a precious memory for Chiefs fans. Now Falcons fans can say the same.

Say what you want about the addition of Bennie Logan this offseason and the subsequent exit of Dontari Poe from the Kansas City Chiefs, but End Zone Poe will always be missed. Logan is certainly a welcome addition to the defense, a versatile, impressive defender who has helped anchor the defensive front alongside Chris Jones. However, one facet of Poe’s game will always live on in our hearts as Chiefs Kingdom. It looks a little something like this:

When Poe left for the Falcons this offseason, he not only left a legacy as the Chiefs most dependable anchor on defense over the last five years. He was also a memorable red zone asset, a head-scratcher for opposing defensive coordinators who were forced to wonder how exactly the Chiefs were going to employ their 346 lb. playmaker. When he wasn’t throwing a touchdown, he was catching them.

Sometimes there wasn’t even a pass involved. Two years ago, Alex Smith simply handed the ball off to Poe and he took it airborne.

The Atlanta Falcons are beginning to learn for themselves what Poe can add on the offensive side. In their game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, the Falcons offense installed a red zone package that included Dontari Poe as a lead blocker, putting other fullbacks to shame. Check out how good Poe looks clearing the way for running back Tevin Coleman on a touchdown run.

It’s likely only a matter of time until the Falcons actually give Dontari Poe a touchdown or two to call his own. It’s likely even what they need since last year’s league-leading offensive attack has taken a hit the year after their Super Bowl appearance. Take it from the Chiefs. If you want to install a memorable offense, putting Dontari Poe in as part of your red zone offense is a great way to fire up the fans and guarantee yourself six points.
