The Kansas City Chiefs have added cornerback Will Redmond to their practice squad, a former draft pick from the San Francisco 49ers.

The Kansas City Chiefs have added another defensive back during the bye week with the addition of former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Will Redmond to the team’s practice squad.

Redmond worked out for the Houston Texans on Wednesday, but ended up joining the Chiefs on Thursdays. Redmond was recently released by the Niners after several weeks on their injured reserve list where he was placed at the beginning of the season. He was released on October 31, which made him eligible to work out for interested teams.

Typically a team is not so quick to give up on a third round investment, but the Niners cleared the deck in terms of leadership in the front office and coaching staff this offseason, meaning new general manager John Lynch has no ties to Trent Baalke’s draft picks.

Redmond was plagued by injuries at Mississippi State which is why his stock fell as low as the third round. Even in the pros, he remains injury prone but for a low-risk flyer on the practice squad, Redmond is actually a very worthy addition. However he’s never played a single down at the NFL level in over a year of availability so any sort of predictions as to what he could bring to the Chiefs should be guarded.
