CINCINNATI, OH - AUGUST 19: C.J. Spiller

The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly parted ways with running back C.J. Spiller for the fourth time this offseason.

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to churn over the running back spot on the depth chart, and unfortunately C.J. Spiller has once again been caught up in the roster current, as Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star notes that he’s been released for the fourth time.

Spiller finally had a chance to show what he can do in the Chiefs offense on Sunday, but there wasn’t anything at all to show for it. He was targeted on two receptions, but failed to catch either one, and he also rushed twice for a total of 0 yards. It’s not all on Spiller since he was certainly not deployed in ways that would allow him to do too much, nor was he given a chance to really work himself into the game plan. That said, the results do tell part of the story.

Unfortunately for Spiller, this has become par for the course in his relationship with the Chiefs since signing with them last spring. Four times, Spiller has signed a deal to join the Chiefs and now four times, the Chiefs have told Spiller that he is no longer a part of the team. During the preseason, it was simply a matter of needing the space for relevant roster moves, but now Spiller can take it more personally than ever before.

It’s unclear what other moves the Chiefs will be planning, but for now we know Spiller is once again a free agent.
