Houston Texans safety Marcus Gilchrist has been fined as expected for his hit on Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Houston Texans safety Marcus Gilchrist was fined nearly $25,000 for his hit on Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in Week 5. During the Texans loss, Gilchrist hit Kelce with his helmet that forced Kelce to also hit the ground with his head, resulting in the tight end being forced to sit the rest of the game after entering the concussion protocol.
Gilchrist’s hit came at a point where Kelce was on his way to a career-defining game. The Chiefs All-Pro tight end had 98 receiving yards before halftime on 8 catches and the Texans didn’t have an answer for his ability to move the chains by creating mismatches on the second level of the defense.
Gilchrist entered the NFL with the San Diego Chargers as their second round choice in the 2011 NFL Draft. He signed with the Texans this offseason after spending the last two years with the New York Jets. He’s started two of five games this year for Houston and has 18 total tackles, 1 sack and 1 interception.
