There should be little doubt that the Kansas City Chiefs are the NFL’s top overall team right now, and FanSided confirms it with this week’s power rankings.
The latest NFL Power Rankings are out from FanSided and everything is, as Radiohead says, in its right place for Week 5. The Kansas City Chiefs are listed as No. 1 overall as the NFL’s lone unbeaten team as they sport a perfect 5-0 record in the standings.
This last week, the Chiefs rolled into Houston to take on the Texans and the game was a rout, despite what the final 42-34 score might reveal. Many of those points put up by Deshaun Watson near the game’s end were Hail Mary passes brought in by the team’s talented receiving corps. The reality is that the Chiefs settled for several field goals on the night and seemingly moved the chains at will. It was another victory over a playoff hopeful on a resume that also includes a road win over the New England Patriots and home wins over the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins. Each of those teams could be considered among the very top teams in football.
Per the FanSided rankings, the Chiefs seem on cruise control straight to a playoff spot, if not a first round bye:
"Kansas City is certainly on course to reach the postseason for a third consecutive year and the fourth time in five years under head coach Andy Reid. The Chiefs’ recent dominance of the AFC West is a huge reason they are the favorite to repeat in the division."
This week the Chiefs scored on a long punt return by Tyreek Hill. They also can score on defensive miscues or just stretch the field with their offensive weapons. They might have lost Chris Conley for the season due to an Achilles, but the best pieces remain in place around Alex Smith, including tight end Travis Kelce, running back Kareem Hunt and wideout Tyreek Hill.
