Raiders get embarrassed in primetime

After coming off of two impressive weeks to start the season, the Oakland Raiders turned in an absolute stinker in Washington D.C. on Sunday night. The Raiders had struggles on both sides of the ball as they lost by 17 points against the Redskins.

Derek Carr completed 19 out of 31 passes for just 118 yards and 1 touchdown. Carr also threw 2 interceptions. The biggest story of the night seemed to be the offensive line. Oakland’s offensive line was fantastic throughout the first 2 weeks of the season. Derek Carr was only sacked twice coming into Sunday night. However, the Redskins were able to get to Carr several times. Carr was sacked 4 times and pressured on several other occasions. Things weren’t any better on the ground as the Raiders rushed for only 32 yards on 13 carries. The Raiders totaled a putrid 128 offensive yards. This result is surprising, as the Redskins gave up over 330 yards to the Los Angeles Rams in week 2.

The Raiders defense was just as bad. The Redskins amassed 472 yards on offense. Kirk Cousins had his way with the Oakland secondary completing 25 out of 30 passes for 356 yards. Cousins also threw 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. The Raiders had no answer for Chris Thompson. The Redskins running back only rushed for 38 yards, but had 150 yards receiving. Former Chief Sean Smith got torched multiple times by Redskins tight end Vernon Davis.

There aren’t any positive takeaways for the Raiders after this game. With how lopsided the game was, the Raiders are lucky that they only lost by 17 points. Oakland will have to turn things around quickly, as they head to Denver to face the Broncos next week.

Quick Notes

Raiders wide receiver Michael Crabtree left the game with a chest injury. The injury occurred when Crabtree got hit while going up for a high throw.
