Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon was apparently dealing with a bone bruise during the team’s loss to the Chiefs on Sunday.

The Los Angeles Chargers continue to deal with a number of injuries early in the season and the latest affected their star running back on Sunday against the visiting Kansas City Chiefs. Ian Rapoport has word that Melvin Gordon was limited on Sunday at Carson, California with a “bone bruise in his knee.”

Gordon had 17 total touches on Sunday, all of which were carries for 79 rushing yards, good for a respectable 4.65 yards per carry average. He also had 1 rushing touchdown. Gordon didn’t catch either of the 2 targets thrown his way.

On the season, Gordon is still averaging a career-low 3.3 yards/carry with 44 carries for 146 rushing yards. Earlier losses on the year to the Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos really limited Gordon, especially against Miami in Week 2 when he had 9 carries for 13 rushing yards.

Gordon had a sort of breakout year last season for the Chargers when he had 10 rushing touchdowns in his sophomore season, showing a nose for the end zone on a team that needed someone to force defenses to respect the running game. Gordon had 997 rushing yards last year and has been a capable pass catcher out of the backfield as well. However, he’s been slow to get going this year with his performance against K.C. standing out as his best by far.
