Third Quarter

The Eagles and Chiefs traded punts coming out of halftime. Speaking of coming out, DeAnthony Thomas needs glue on the bottom of his cleats. I would need to do more research but I’m not sure he has gotten to the original line once on a return. Alex Smith still has no protection.

After the Chiefs punted the ball back to the Eagles, they scored on a 7-play, 81-yard drive. Five of those seven plays were for a first down, and one was a touchdown pass from Wentz to Alshon Jeffery. Philly leads 10 to 6.

Wake up Kansas City. Five plays later Kareem Hunt woke up the offense and the crowd on a gorgeous 53-yard touchdown run. He had only 81 yards total for the game. 13 to 10 Chiefs.

Fourth Quarter

The Eagles answered Hunt’s touchdown run with a game-tying 40-yard field goal after a 1- play drive. The ensuing drive left me scaring all the little children in the house. On the drive after Kareem Hunt took it to the house, the Chiefs come out and throw each down and are forced to punt. I’ll save my rant for later. The Chiefs needed something big to happen.

Four plays later, a panicked Wentz threw the ball at a defender’s helmet which bounced two stories in the air before falling into something big. Mister Chris Jones, who had already wrapped up two sacks, had the interception.

With good field position, the Chiefs took advantage. Thanks mainly to the leaping abilities of Travis Kelce. On back to back plays, Kelce leapt over defenders. The first giant leap ended in a thud. Not happy with his performance, on the next play, Kelce took a short pass across the middle and leapt over three defenders as he fell into the end zone. 20 to 13 Chiefs.

A sack and two passes to no one later and the Eagles were punting. The momentum was on the Chiefs side. A 35 yard pass down the far sideline to Conley set up the Kareem Hunt show. Four straight rushes by Hunt. Each run was a show of strength and knowledge of the game of football by Hunt. Refusing to go down, using all the strength in his legs Hunt reached the ball over the goal line for his second touchdown of the game. With roughly two minutes left at home, up by 14. The game was over. Hold my Mai Tai.

Two-Minute Warning

The Chiefs defense acted like the game was over. Chris Jones got his 3rd sack of the game on the first play before the 2 minute warning, and then I have nothing else positive to write. Philadelphia converted on four different 3rd down conversions on a drive that took just over two minutes. On the 13th play Nelson Agholor caught a 9 yard touchdown pass from Carson Wentz.

Thinking that all was okay, but the score didn’t look as good, I relaxed. So did the Chiefs special teams. The Eagles recovered the onside kick due to the fact it appeared they were the only ones who wanted the ball. So with 8 seconds left the Eagles had a chance to score and tie, or take the lead. The Hail Mary was batted away because this wasn’t the Florida/Tennessee game this past weekend.
