Quarterback: Kansas City
Alex Smith is just a better quarterback at this time. He has a better understanding of defensive schemes. He has better decision making skills. Although Alex Smith may not be known for winning games, he very seldom loses the game due to poor play. There’s a rare chance that he puts up numbers like last week, and if that’s the case, the comparison isn’t even close.
Carson Wentz has a bunch of upside. The No. 2 overall pick in 2016 will probably throw for more yards than Smith in this game. He has a nice chance of turning the ball over more as well.
Running back: Kansas City
Kareem Hunt. The fact that Philadelphia doesn’t have him gives the Chiefs the category by a landslide! Even after just one game, I am all in on this kid.
LeGarrette Blount hasn’t put those kind of numbers up. His production in the first week was a third of what Hunt accomplished. Philadelphia appears to have a feature back that isn’t made for 20+ carries a game, whether he gets them or not. That being said this should be a good test for any run defense. He is a bruiser.
Wide Receiver: Philadelphia
The Eagles have a few formidable weapons at the receiver spot. The Chiefs still have only one.
Having three different targets like Wentz has must make a quarterback comfortable. None may be top-tier or even 2nd tier, but they all have playmaking ability. Alshon Jeffrey leads the group as far as prestige. He had some unbelievable seasons while in Chicago. Nelson Agholor is the early favorite to get the majority of the targets in the slot this season. Throw Torrey Smith in the mix and you have a trio that can catch the ball all over the field.
Even after last week Kansas City is still looking for a second clear option at the receiver spot. Most of Alex’s yards came from throws to Hill and Hunt against the Patriots. Conley caught a couple nice catches and Wilson pitched in as well. Still, neither require much attention from the defense as of yet.
Tight End: Kansas City
Travis Kelce is an elite tight end with playmaking ability. Especially lined up against linebackers. He had a fairly quiet day last week but still got involved in the short yardage game, including some trickery.
Zach Ertz gets thing done quietly. His downfall seems to be he gets lost in the gameplan at times. Sometimes his name is nowhere to be found on the stat sheet. Ertz is definitely a quality tight end in the NFL, but Kelce is a man amongst boys out there.
Offensive Line: Philadelphia
Pro Football Focus has the Eagles as the #1 o-line group in the NFL and I have no valid argument to go against that. Travis Kelce’s older brother Jason heads up the line at center. Lane Johnson scored the best at right tackle last season. Across the board the Eagles have a solid group.
When it comes to accurate scoring that nobody understands, Kansas City has a slightly above average line. The longer the group stays together they should continue to improve throughout the season. Names like Mitch Morse fly under the radar.
