The Kansas City Chiefs are mostly known for their elite-level defense, but there are plenty of options that came up when we asked our staff about offensive MVP predictions for 2017.

Most of the attention drawn by the Kansas City Chiefs these days is on the strong defensive and special teams units. That’s as it should be. Bob Sutton has learned to put together several talented parts into a cohesive beast that can pretty much put up a “No Trespassing” sign on any end zone in the NFL. Dave Toub isn’t just an excellent special teams coach, he’s also a future head coach in waiting. However those aren’t the only impressive elements on the Chiefs. Their offense has plenty of excellent players worthy of some attention.

Specifically, with our 2017 season predictions underway, we asked our staff writers for their picks for offensive MVP and the results were not only a bit more varied than expected but the Chiefs two most heralded skill position players were the two who received the least votes. Does that sound crazy? It is. But our staff writers were clued into something they could not have known when they wrote their positions.

The disclaimer here is that all of our staff writers submitted these entries before the Chiefs decimated the New England Patriots defense on opening week. We just didn’t have time to post all of our predictions until now given roster cuts and then the early game (when we would have normally posted these stories). You can choose to believe us or not, but it turns out our staff writers knew that a certain rookie would blossom and that our current starting quarterback would enjoy a strong season—or at least that’s how it looks after Week 1.

Here’s our staff votes for the Chiefs 2017 Offensive MVP.
