The Kansas City Chiefs appear to be a contender for this season, but the future is also very bright with so much young talent.

The Kansas City Chiefs appear to be locked and loaded for this season. The future however is bright for the Chiefs, who have the potential to be an AFC powerhouse for years to come. There is a nice mix of veterans and youth on this year’s roster. Where that youth is at on the roster spells a fantastic future for the Chiefs and their Kingdom.

Patrick Mahomes

Although Patrick Mahomes will have to wait, his presence is already felt on this team. Alex Smith has had to hear it all this offseason. The excitement around Chiefs Kingdom for the young gun slinger is warranted, a strong vocal appreciation for what this kid can do on the field.

For the first time in Smith’s career in Kansas City, there is pressure to perform. And after one game, Alex seems to have answered that call. The presence of Mahomes is already making a difference. This is not to say that Alex underperformed before the Chiefs drafted Mahomes, but it’s recognizing the competitive fire it seems to have created.

The Chiefs have their quarterback in Patrick Mahomes. He had an outstanding preseason and did everything the staff wanted him to do. When was the last time the Chiefs had the QOTF waiting on the sideline? So if you have a quarterback that can throw it 80 yards in the air accurately, you need a receiver that can get downfield fast.

Tyreek Hill

Tyreek Hill gets everywhere in a hurry—faster than anyone else can get there. If you are looking for a deep threat receiver, look no further. In just his second year, he’s taken over the #1 spot, and in his first game, he put up 7 catches for 133 and a touchdown. The things Tyreek can do on the field are unequivocally impressive.

Imagine an offense that has a quarterback and a receiver like Mahomes and Hill. No matter where the ball may be placed, you’re already in the red zone. If only you had a running back that demanded the defense’s attention.

Kareem Hunt

Kareem Hunt sure has a nice ring to it. He only did something no other rookie has ever done in his first contest—not to mention it was the nationally televised event for the evening. Opening night in the NFL at the home of the reigning champions as they celebrated how great they were. Kareem Hunt likely won’t be invited to many parties after crashing that one. With 246 yards from scrimmage and 3 touchdowns, his debut performance was record-breaking. I think we will keep him.

Hunt was expected to perform well out of the gate, but he blew those expectations out of the water. If he can consistently do half of what he did against New England, he will be a superstar in this league. There are no indications that his performance against the Patriots was a fluke. He was a man-beast out there.

There are holes in this team that still need to be filled of course. There are positions manned by seasoned veterans that won’t be here in the future also. The Chiefs will undoubtedly look different in 2020 than they do currently. For the first time in quite a while the future looks really, really good.
