Fallen players shouldn’t stifle the Chiefs at this stage

It’s helpful to remember the franchise has been here before. In 2014, Berry missed 10 games during his bout with Hodgkins lymphoma. Kansas City still went on to boast the league’s 2nd-ranked scoring defense anyway. Mind you, that defense was also missing contributions from four-time Pro Bowler Derrick Johnson, former Defensive Rookie of the Year Marcus Peters (still at the University of Washington at the time) and defensive lineman Chris Jones (a sophomore at Mississippi State).

Can the Chiefs shoulder the loss of Eric Berry or will their safety-by-committee approach be sufficient in replacing his role on the defense? Will an improved offense help to offset the limitations of a defensive group without its dynamic play-making safety? Are there any players on the open market you’re intrigued by or are Sorensen and Murray viable alternatives to Berry?
