Eagles vs. Chiefs: Ronald Darby injured with dislocated foot

The Philadelphia Eagles will be without their top defensive back when they play the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles have several common threads between them given the obvious connections between coaches and the storied history of Andy Reid on the Philly side of things. But one other commonality on Sunday, when the two teams play in Week 2, will be the fact that both franchises will be without their top defensive back.

For the Chiefs, they will be without star safety Eric Berry for the rest of the season given his recent Achilles injury, suffered during the team’s opening day win over the New England Patriots. Berry played lockdown coverage on Rob Gronkowski all game long only to come up limping early in the fourth quarter. Later, an MRI confirmed that Berry had a ruptured tendon and would have to sit the rest of the year.

For the Eagles, the loss comes just when they were learning to enjoy having Ronald Darby on the roster. Darby was instantly the most talented defensive back on the Eagles once they traded for him from the Buffalo Bills earlier this preseason. Now they’re hoping to not lose him for the same amount of time the Chiefs will miss Berry.

Darby only had a single tackle in the Eagles’ season opening win over Washington but his presence was immediately apparent for Philly. Unfortunately an already thin unit must now make due in the interim against a Chiefs team that opened wide the passing game in week 1. Alex Smith looked as good as he ever has against the Patriots, and Tyreek Hill will not make things easy on Philly’s secondary.

More updates to come as word of Darby’s official injury designation and timeline is released.
