Can the Chiefs continue what they showed Thursday night

I have talked a lot on Twitter about Alex Smith and my doubts for him leading this team to the Super Bowl. I have also expressed my concern for him making the deep and tight window throws in big games.

While he had a great game of great throws in New England, will he be able to do this consistently? I’m not trying to take away what Smith did to the Patriots, but I have to see it on a consistent basis. We have seen Smith play really well, and then the rest of the season be up and down.

While I’m very impressed with Smith’s game, I want to see this kind of play from him in the playoffs as well. This game showed me that he can go into New England and win against Tom Brady and the Patriots.

While that does not mean he will do it in the playoffs, it’s a confidence boost nonetheless, not only for the fans but for him as well. He can walk into New England if they make it that far in the playoffs, and know that he has done it before.

Another thing that this game showed is how much the Chiefs offense needs a solid run game. With all the Chiefs running backs being banged up in 2016, the offense really struggled being forced to become a more pass heavy offense. With the threat of a solid run game, this offense is going to be very hard for defenses to contain.

The defense showed that even with some injuries, they can shut down one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. Outside of the penalties, this was one of the best defensive performances over the last few years. Clean up those penalties and mistakes and this defense could be in contension for best defense.

All around a great start to the season. Beating your toughest opponent in week 1 and showing a lot of promise for this years Chiefs. I expect a really good season barring crazy amounts of injuries.
