NFL players express concern, encouragement for Eric Berry
By Matt Conner
Eric Berry’s Achilles injury on Thursday night not only scared football fans, but it drew the attention and concern of his fellow players as well.
For the majority of Thursday night’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots, Eric Berry played a dominant role. In the fourth quarter, however, his own limitations caught up with him when he went down with an apparent Achilles injury.
For three full quarters, Berry limited the Pats best offensive weapon in Rob Gronkowski to negligible impact on the field and allowed the rest of the defense to capitalize in the process, leading the Chiefs to a rare fourth quarter lead. There’s no Chiefs victory last night without the heroics of Berry along the way, which is why even in the face of such a glorious victory, so many players were taking time out to express concern and say a prayer for Berry.
Berry was taken away on a cart in the fourth quarter after the injury and did not return to the game. At this time it’s still unknown whether or not Berry’s injury will force him to miss considerable time, but that’s the popular guess at this point given that it’s a tendon injury. If he tore the tendon, he’s likely to miss the rest of the 2017 season and will face a long rehab.
Several current Chiefs, former Chiefs and even other NFL players took to Twitter to support Berry. It’s a display that shows just how much the Chiefs safety is respect around the NFL and that football is indeed just a game. Check out a sampling of the responses on Twitter below:
