We have you covered with our first victory podcast of the new NFL season for the Kansas City Chiefs!

The Kansas City Chiefs gained over 500 yards of offense on a Bill Belichick defense and put up 6 touchdowns on their way to a victory on Thursday night. Alex Smith threw for 368 yards and 4 TD’s. Let me say that again, Alex Smith threw for 368 yards and 4 TDs. Smith showed what so many fans have been clamoring for for four years. He took deep shots and generally looked to throw instead of run.

If I had the chance to give out a game ball for the offense it would go to rookie Kareem Hunt. Hunt took the first snap and gained close to ten yards before fumbling the ball. He didn’t lose a single fumble in college and loses his first official pro snap. Hunt didn’t let that deter him though as he would finish the night as a record holder. Hunt set the record for most yardage in a debut game at 239 yards from scrimmage. He also caught two TDs and ran for a third. Hunt is the future of the running game in Kansas City moving forward.

Defensively you look at what Kansas City did and you think they probably lose the game. The first quarter was rough for the Chiefs as was a lot of the second quarter. The Patriots put up over 200 yards of offense in the first half. Kansas City began to attack in the second half however and started to phase Brady. Justin Houston is definitely back. Houston showed power against the run and shut down the outside running lane multiple times and also showed his ability to get after the quarterback. With Justin Houston back and healthy this Chiefs defense could be very good this year.
