A closer look at Andy Reid’s coaching history in Week 1
Reid’s opening game history
In 18 seasons of being a head coach, Reid has won 10 of those season-opening contests. Rounding up for a repeating five, Reid has won 56% of his opening games. That leaves his losing percentage at a rounded 44%. There was a repeating four in there. Math is fun sometimes huh?
Of those 18 games, 10 have been home games and eight have been on the road. It’s not an even spread of win all 10 home games and lose all eight road games. That would be way too convenient. The breakdown runs something like this:
Home games won: 3
Home games lost: 5
Road games won: 7
Road games lost: 3
Reid wins 30% of his opening games at home. He wins 70% of his opening games on the road. Now if one factors in overtime, it is a nice 50-50 split for win-loss. Both OT opening games have been at home.
Taking the above numbers at a glance, history is on our side for the 19th opening game Reid will be coaching. Unfortunately, the game opening the 2017 season is at Gilette Stadium against the New England Patriots.
However, where most people would have been content to wrap it up there, I decided to go a few steps deeper. I wanted to give the people of Chiefs Kingdom assurance that history really is on our side. I looked at each of these 18 games to see what the final score was and what factors determined this outcome. Here we go!
