The Kansas City Chiefs have a solid roster with a lot of talent. Like all the other 32 teams in the league though, they must go through roster cuts. With everyone trimming down to their final 53 for the season, there are going to be a lot of different players being signed and dismissed from rosters at an alarming rate. In the spirit of this here are a few veteran players the Chiefs may be looking at to improve our roster if they are released.

Byron Maxwell, cornerback

The thought of Byron Maxwell coming to the Chiefs is not a popular one. When looking at the spot across from Marcus Peters, and the uncertainty there, shows the Chiefs need to find a complementary corner. Terrance Mitchell has struggled to see the field at all this season. He also only had a tiny sample size from last season. So there is also a chance he pulls a Marcus Cooper and does not play well.

Then there is Philip Gaines who has had multiple opportunities to lock down the RCB spot. Gaines continues to look shaky in coverage and seems destined to be a backup for his career. Looking at Maxwell, he played 13 games last season before going down with an ankle injury towards the end of the year. Last season he accumulated 53 tackles, 15 passes defended, two interceptions, and four forced fumbles. If Maxwell can replicate those numbers for the Chiefs, it would end up being a great addition to the team and solidifying the secondary.
