DeMarcus Robinson was once selected above Tyreek Hill by the Kansas City Chiefs. Let’s remember the reasons why.

Tyreek Hill is ready to be DeSean Jackson West. Travis Kelce is already an All-Pro tight end, ready to etch his name permanently next to Rob Gronkowski as the decade’s best. Outside of those two, however, the Kansas City Chiefs are rolling the dice with a youth movement comprised largely of unproven characters. The potential is certainly there for one or more to break out, but it’s impossible to tell exactly who that player might be.

Much has been written about Chris Conley’s potential this offseason. He’s emerged as a vocal leader and his measurables at the NFL Combine blew everyone away, earning him a third round selection in the 2015 NFL Draft. He’s the safest bet given his 11 starts last season and ascending production—certainly more so than Albert Wilson, who saw his targets drop a bit last season to 51 from 55. Conley clearly emerged as the favored from the pair on the depth chart.

Beyond both of them are total wild cards, back-to-back fourth round picks who remain completely untested at the pro level. This year, the pick was Jehu Chesson, a Michigan wideout with a deflated stock who John Dorsey still traded up to select. Last season it was Demarcus Robinson, a talented wideout from Florida who had been labeled as “troubled” for good reason (four college suspensions will do that). One year later, besides being name-dropped by Andy Reid this spring, the verdict is still out.
