Justin Houston is becoming very expensive for the Chiefs with a salary cap hit that stands as the largest among all non-QBs in the NFL.
Let me make a disclaimer up front: we’d be paying attention to this even if Justin Houston had been completely healthy over the last couple seasons. Anyone making as much money—in fact, more money—than any other non-quarterback in football deserves to be put in the spotlight for a minute. Back to the column.
Recently I ran across a very interesting tidbit from NFL analyst (and former Chiefs employee) Field Yates. He posted the following:
Of the top 10 cap hits in the NFL for the 2017 season, only one of them is a non-quarterback: Chiefs OLB Justin Houston at $22.1M.

Another quick disclaimer: San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is at No. 10 and he’s technically tied with cornerback Josh Norman of the Washington Redskins. Both players have a $20 million cap hit. That bit of information aside, Yates is right to shine a spotlight on this.
