The Chiefs had two great performances on Saturday night from their top two quarterbacks.

The Chiefs quarterbacks showed up in full force on Saturday night. Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes ended the night 18 for 23 for 171 yards and 3 touchdowns. That is close to ten yards per completion and a very respectable 7.43 yards per attempt. For a game that was supposed to be more focused on the running game the Chiefs looked great throwing the ball. Even Tyler Bray showed he is capable in this offense. His first pass went for a touchdown to Seantavius Jones on a post pattern.

Kansas City’s offense in general looked very good on Saturday night. The running game featured great runs from Kareem Hunt and Charcandrick West. C.J. Spiller didn’t disappoint either showing explosiveness and his speed on a couple of separate occasions. West ended the night over 100 yards by himself, but did it mostly in the fourth quarter against the Bengals third and fourth string defenders.

Kansas City heads back to Arrowhead for practice on Monday before they travel to Seattle for their third preseason game. The avoided the injury bug for the most part in Cincinnati and came home with a couple of minor injuries. Hunt and Marcus Peters suffered minor injuries but should be good to go moving forward.

Coach Andy Reid told the media yesterday that he thinks Eric Berry will practice this week. He said it is also possible he could play on Friday. I would also venture to guess that Chris Jones and Roy Miller have good chances to play on Friday. Reid also stated that Mahomes will stay as the second string QB. After Mahomes’ play on Saturday it will be very intriguing to watch him against an even better defense in the Seattle Seahawks. Coach Reid said that the starters will play more on Friday night. Alex Smith will get the first half and it’s possible Mahomes ends up with a couple series with the first team.
