Yesterday, Alex Smith’s name was floated as a potential trade option for the Jacksonville Jaguars on Twitter to replace Blake Bortles. Does it make sense?

On Wednesday, I appeared on a radio show with our Joshua Brisco on ESPN and was surprised by a question, one that had apparently surfaced in places I’d not yet seen on the interwebs. The question was simple: Should the Jacksonville Jaguars try to trade for Alex Smith? I was a bit blindsided and honestly I can’t even remember what I said.

So I’d like a chance to make a real statement, something a bit more thought out as to the silly rumor floated. I call it silly because there’s no substance here. There’s absolutely nothing at all to hang this rumor upon, a quote from either team that would insinuate there are any talks. It’s all conjecture from a Jags writer looking for someone else under center besides Blake Bortles.

Who can blame him?

But if you lift the lid a bit, you realize the Chiefs do a have a situation that will eventually bubble over. Even a recent quote from Smith’s agent, Tom Condon, shows that he realizes Smith will likely suit up for another team in the near future. Is it outrageous that the timing could be moved up? Yes… but then again maybe not so much.
