Who will be the team’s main returner?

In 2016, the emergence of wide receiver/return specialist Tyreek Hill was a thing of beauty. One of the fastest players in the NFL was a threat to take the ball to the house with every touch. Hill’s talent was on display as a receiver, running back, and return man. However, now that Hill is more than likely going to be the number one receiving option for quarterback Alex Smith, it leaves a big gap in the return game.

During their first game of the 2017 preseason, special teams coordinator Dave Toub let us see a few different options at return man. The one that took the most snaps at the position was Jehu Chesson, the wide receiver from Michigan. Chesson managed to gain 78 yards on three returns for an average of 26 yards, with a long return of 39 yards. These numbers seem like he is the current front runner for the return job.

Look for the possibility of some more players back taking kicks during the Cincy game as Toub tries to narrow down his return man. However, with Jehu’s first game it would seem as if may have found his man.

There are a lot of questions surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs and these were just a couple of the questions that this writer had while watching the game last week. Regardless of what the answers to those questions may be, we will begin the slow process of getting all of them answered over the next three weeks; and more importantly Chiefs football is back!
