Kansas City Chiefs film review: Bryan Witzmann vs. San Francisco 49ers
Second Drive:
Play 1 – Deep touchdown to Chris Conley (called back)
Keeps his man (Buckner has now been replaced by Chris Jones, no not that Chris Jones, a different one) in front of him in pass protection and is part of creating a great pocket for Bray.
Play 2 – Completion to Demarcus Robinson
Shuts Mitchell out of the play by turning him towards the center. Another good pocket for Bray.
Play 3 – Long sideline completion to Conley
Doubles up on Mitchell with Morse while still scanning for other defenders to pick up (good awareness). Yet another good pocket for Bray.
Play 4 – Ware short run to left
Witzmann never gets a good block on Jones who is going left, since Jones is going outside to stop the run Ware cuts behind Jones (and Witzmann) and they are non-factors. Witzmann didn’t really do anything to help or hurt the play.
Play 5 – Ware up the middle for 4 yards
Doubles Jones with Fisher to start and then slides off and picks up a linebacker. Not much push but he did help keep two defenders off Ware.
Play 6 – Bray Interception
Jones gets turned around trying to get past Witzmann and Witzmann pushes him to the ground. The pressure that makes Bray rush his throw came from the edges, Witzmann was fine.
This was another really solid drive for Witzmann. The only play that was mediocre was the short gain to the left by Ware. It was a run to Witzmann’s side and he never really got a block on anyone. Other than that he was solid on all the other plays. Side note: other than some pressure off the edge on the interception, Bray had great pockets to work with on this drive.
Now let’s look at Witzmann’s final drive of the day.
