KANSAS CITY, MO – AUGUST 11: Quarterback Patrick Mahomes /

3rd Quarter

A sack by Marcus Rush sparked a little excitement. The sack forced a punt which brought Patrick Mahomes back out.

WHICH BROUGHT PATRICK MAHOMES BACK OUT !!!!!

Kicken Ficken gives the Chiefs the lead by one. Nothing flashy that series, a DeAnthony Thomas sighting, Seantaviius Jones making a play, Charcandrick West failing to reach the line of scrimmage.

More flags, more stringy defensive play, and Marcus Rush making a name for himself.

A blocked punt by newly acquired Pierre-Louis and a recovery by rookie running back Kareem Hunt set Mahomes and the Chiefs up at the 8 yard line. Patrick Mahomes rolled out to the right and threw back toward the middle of the end zone where Marcus Kemp snagged the ball for the touchdown. Chiefs lead 17 to 10.

A great defensive stop and a few more penalties set up about three minutes of conversation about Gehrig Deiter, who happens to be my guy I’m rooting for to make the roster. Now a punt back to San Fran.

The third quarter gave us the first touchdown pass by Mahomes that we will all forget soon because it’s preseason football. Mahomes showed great footwork and pocket presence at times. The quarter belonged to him.

4th Quarter

Another flag thrown.

The game definitely looks like a preseason game now.

Basically the majority of the defense that started the 4th Quarter will not be members of the Chiefs for long. At times they looked like my first grade team. (Go Tigers).

Tie ball game.

Joel Stave plays quarterback.

Marcus Kemp fumbled what was otherwise a great night for those named Marcus on the Chiefs.

Mitch Morse likes Willie Nelson.

Yet another flag.

Touchdown 49ers. And another flag. 24 to 17

One run by CJ Spiller and he already looks better than West.

Punt.

Bad defense.

Robbie Gould kicks footballs for the 49ers, and it’s 27 to 17. Final score.

Patrick Mahomes showed us enough to want to see him again next week, even more. The first string offense looked good. The Redzone defense looks good. A few position battles became more clear. Tyler Bray loves clipboards. Gherig Dieter has a nickname, and that nickname is Sheep Dog. The final score doesn’t matter right now. Right now getting things right matter.
