Here’s a closer look at Patrick Mahomes and how the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback fared during his first ever preseason game vs. the Niners.

All eyes were on Patrick Mahomes on Friday night as the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback made his debut at Arrowhead Stadium. They had good reason to be so excited, since the Chiefs fan base hasn’t had a first round quarterback to root for since Todd Blackledge back in 1983. Fortunately, the Texas Tech product gave fans a few key plays that showcased what he could do, and hope remains as bright on this side of his first official game as it was before he suited up.

For the game, Mahomes completed 7 of 9 passes for 49 passing yards and 1 touchdown. He was also sacked once for a 7-yard loss. Here’s a look at Mahomes warming up and, of course, Tyreek Hill doing what he does.

If you missed it, from the very first play, Mahomes showed what he could do. Check out this long pass to DeMarcus Robinson.

Unfortunately, a holding penalty called it back and frustrated everyone in Arrowhead Stadium, but it’s clear that Robinson even had to hold up because he had such a nice lead. In fact, it would have been even better to see Mahomes lead the receiver even more for an obvious score here. Here’s hoping Robinson and Mahomes develop this sort of great chemistry moving forward.

Then there was, of course, his first ever touchdown thrown as a professional quarterback. Don’t miss this improvised strike to Marcus Kemp.

Let’s look from another angle. How exciting it would be to see it in person!

Given how Mahomes looked and the fact that Tyler Bray threw an interception, it will be interesting to see if Mahomes can climb the depth chart to No. 2 behind Alex Smith.
