The Kansas City Chiefs have significant depth at a couple key positions, which means that they might have some valuable trade assets on their hands.
Every day the list gets longer. Every NFL team will suffer key injuries in the preseason, but this year seems to be particularly brutal on a few teams, including the Los Angeles Chargers and Baltimore Ravens. As injuries take their toll, general managers are forced to adjust their rosters entering the regular season, since no one wants to give up before a season even starts.
The most extreme example of this could be seen last year when Teddy Bridgewater was lost for the year with a severe knee injury. The Minnesota Vikings suddenly found themselves without their starting quarterback and paid the piper to trade for Sam Bradford of the Philadelphia Eagles. The price was steep, but a need is a need and hopes are high for everyone in August. Rick Spielman did what he had to do to salvage the season.
The Kansas City Chiefs have stayed healthy thus far (knock on wood!) and, at this point, have a few trade assets that could prove valuable for teams with various needs. Former general manager John Dorsey left Brett Veach with a loaded roster with particularly deep talent pools at both cornerback and offensive line. Given the number of impressive young players as well, Veach’s job could be made easier by trading some players for future considerations and draft assets before the waiver wire will claim them anyway.
Here’s a look at the Chiefs five most valuable trade assets and why the team might make them available.
